The Mahendra Highway threads through nearly every terrain a runner can face in one country — heat, altitude, monsoon roads, mountain passes — compressed into a single unbroken line.

A wide view across the Himalayan range

My name is Rahul Sharma — an ultra-marathon runner preparing to cross Nepal coast to coast, roughly 1,000 kilometres along the Mahendra Highway, on foot, in ten days.

Why

I’ve always been competitive and ambitious from childhood, I have now set my sights on the pursuit of becoming the greatest ultra runner ever. This means not just defying human limits, but defying all odds.

How

Having set a recent world record running the length of Sri Lanka 566km in 6 days, we aim to go from extreme heat to the extreme cold. 1027km in 10 days, averaging 103 km per day on foot.

Why Nepal

Because the road
doesn't get easier.
It gets clearer.

Although the Sri Lanka project was successful we completed the mission, created a documentary for the world to see, raised 27,000 for children’s cancers but it was a failure on a personal level. I failed to run 100km a day which is a challenge I had set for myself, so here we aim to tick that box.

Foundation & Charity

Running toward something bigger.

Every step carries a purpose. This journey supports Nepal Heart Foundation’s work to build healthier communities across Nepal through heart health awareness, early detection, prevention, and access to essential care. By running together, we hope to turn every kilometre into meaningful support for people and families affected by heart disease.

Born to Fly

Before Nepal, there was Sri Lanka — 568 kilometres crossed on foot in just 6 days, becoming the first person to run the length of the island. Blistered feet, brutal heat and long nights alone on the road tested him long before this attempt began; Born to Fly is the record of how he got through it.
